Description:Patients are typically referred to USC Genetic Counseling Program by their OB/GYN, family practitioner, or other health care provider. USC Genetic Counseling Program provides a wide range of services to South Carolina physicians and their patients, including genetic counseling with complex pedigree analysis, multiple marker screening for neural tube defects and chromosome abnormalities, amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling for prenatal diagnosis, cytogenetic testing for infertility, mental retardation, genetic syndromes, leukemia and other cancers. USC Genetic Counseling Program is under the direction of geneticists who are Founding Fellows of the American College of Medical Genetics and certified by the American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG). The Genetics laboratory maintains certification by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) and participates in the College of American Pathologist�s (CAP) Laboratory Accreditation Program. All samples are processed by Cytogenetics Specialists certified through the National Credentialing Agency (NCA).
