Description:BabyNet is South Carolina's interagency system of early intervention services for families who have infants and toddlers, birth to three years of age, with developmental delays or conditions associated with developmental delays. Children may be eligible for BabyNet if they are learning or developing slowly. Eligible children are served regardless of family income or nationality. Services are provided in everyday routines, activities and places relevant to the life of the family. Anyone (a parent, doctor, caregiver, teacher or friend) can make a referral by calling the referral phone number.

Description:The Center for Disability Resources, South Carolina's University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disability Education, Research and Service (UCEDDERS) is part of a network of more than sixty UCEDDERS located at major universities throughout the United States. We work in partnership with others to advance a greater recognition of the abilities of all people and promote their full inclusion into every aspect of society through the interdisciplinary training, community services and technical assistance, research, and dissemination. Some of the Center for Disability Resources' programs are the SC Assistive Technology Project, the Center for Disability Resources Library, the Carolina Autism Resource and Evaluation Center (CARE), Developmental Pediatric Clinic, Supported Employment, and the Attendant Care Project.

Description:Relay South Carolina (RSC) is a free service that provides full telephone accessibility to people who are deaf, hard-of-hearing, deaf-blind, and speech-disabled. This service allows text-telephone (TTY) users to communicate with standard telephone users through specially training relay operators. Calls can be made to anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with no restrictions on the number, length, or type of calls. All calls are strictly confidential and no records of any conversations are maintained. Anyone who wishes to use RSC simply dials the toll free relay number to connect with a communciation assistant (CA). The CA will dial the requested number and relay the conversation between the two callers. RSC service, provided by South Carolina telephone companies through a contract with Sprint, is used to assist communications between people who use text telephones (TTY's) and people who use voice telephones. Specially trained operators facilitate communications between the two callers. Each call is handled in strict confidence. Call to inquire about free equipment available through the South Carolina Telecommunications Equipment Distribution Program. The disabled will need special device(s) installed before using the service. The hearing (voice caller) do not need special devices to use RSC. Description:The Office of Exceptional Children ensures that all children with disabilities in the State have available a free and appropriate public education (FAPE), protects the rights of these children and their parents, and provides leadership to school districts and state-operated programs in the provision of appropriate special educational services. They provide technical assistance relative to psychological services and evaluations for students with disabilities. This office coordinates training and provides technical assistance to local school districts relative to assistive technology.

Description:SCATP is a federally funded project concerned with getting technology into the hands of people with disabilities so that they might live, work, learn and be a more independent part of the community. Examples of assistive technologies include modified eating utensils, page turners, dressing aids; devices that help with speech or hearing; mobility aids like wheelchairs, scooters, walkers; computer access aids like touch screens, modified keyboards, and much more. On the Website is information about how to learn about and access assistive technology. SCATP also provides information and referral, equipment loans, a demonstration center and an annual Expo that is free and open to the public where people can learn about the latest technology.

Description:SCEDP provides free, specialized phone equipment. Examples are: a phone that amplifies the signal so the caller can be better heard, or text on a screen that shows what the caller is saying. Other equipment amplifies the user's voice. Qualifying disabilities are: hard-of-hearing, deaf, deaf-blind, blind/low vision with hearing loss, or speech impaired. A landline phone is also necessary to qualify for equipment. Description:The South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind (SCSDB) is a specialized instructional and resource center. It provides services statewide for individuals who are deaf, blind or sensory multidisabled (children and adults), their families and the professionals who work with them. SCSDB offers programs for preschool, elementary, middle school, high school, sensory multidisabled, vocational and postsecondary educational students, as well as a variety of outreach and support services. The main campus is in Spartanburg, and regional centers are located throughout the state. Admission involves a $40 per student supply fee; otherwise admission is free. Switchboard hours are 8 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday.
