This section from the EPA's Web site explains how their program "Environmental Indicators Initiative" improves their ability to report on the status of and trends in environmental conditions and their impacts on human health and the nation's natural resources. It gives you a definition of indicators (click on the highlighted word) and on the left side column, click on a glossary of terms and acronyms. This page also provides two reports, one for scientists and one for the general public. These reports cover air, water, land, human health and ecological condition.
