MUSC Initiatives to Eliminate Health Disparities in South Carolina
(Medical University of South Carolina)
Learn about the different programs the Medical University of South Carolina has implemented to address health disparities in the state of South Carolina.
South Carolina Area Health Education Consortium
This state agency works closely with South Carolina’s state universities and other partners to educate, recruit, and retain health care providers. Their programs aim to encourage young people, especially minorities and the economically disadvantaged, to enter the healthcare professions; to increase the number of physicians serving the rural areas; and to provide educational programs for health care providers at or near their workplace. On this site you will find educational and summer job programs for middle and high school students, undergraduates, and residency training programs for medical graduates. You will also find online courses for health professionals, bioterrorism training, on-line access to medical information resources, and links to all kinds of other health information resources.
South Carolina Healthy Connections Choices
Healthy Connections Choices is a state program that helps Medicaid recipients enroll in (join) a health plan. The Website includes information on health plans, a directory where patients can find a physician or a hospital, and a five-minute video about the enrollment process. The site is also available in Spanish.
South Carolina Healthy Schools
Healthy Schools is a program of the South Carolina Department of Education for the purpose of improving the health of students and staff. Healthy Schools provides coordination and resources in eight component areas: Family/Community Involvement, Health Education, Physical Education, Health Services, Nutrition Services, Counseling, Psychological, & Social Services, Healthy School Environment, and Health Promotion for Staff.
(National Library of Medicine)
WISER is a system designed to assist first responders in hazardous material incidents.
